Remove the battery pack.
Kwikset door handle wont open.
Remove those two screws and it should remove the door handle with the spindle.
Look for the set screw on neck of the knob between the handle and door.
A new latch may be all you need but if you have to force the handle set on reassembly and apply pressure to the latch as you match up the screws then a proper fix will require cleaning up that hole.
Press and hold the a or program button while reinserting the battery pack.

Be aware that resetting the lock will delete all codes.
When the door knob is locked the handle will not turn which keeps the latch from retracting.
To do that you would be best off using a hole saw and template made for door lock installations.
This is all to say that when your door knob turns but won t open the issue is with you handle not properly interacting with the spring in the latch.
If the lock can t be located by the touchscreen xfinity home or the hub xfinity home automation it may need to be reset.
If this works then you can open the door and it s time to replace the dead latch.
If the bolt moves but not enough to allow the door to open the mechanism probably needs lubrication.
A door knob or door handle uses a spring loaded latch.
In the resting state of the lock the spring is extended.
The turning of the handle retracts the latch by pulling on the spring and compressing it.
To take yours out just use your phillips screw driver again to take out the two screws in the face plate.
You may want to spray wd40 or other lubricant on the lock mechanism.
You can see where the cylinder entered the dead latch mechanism and pulled the latch back.
This is the short version of what you should attempt to do before trying anything else if the screw is loose the key will not turn all the way and the tur.
On the kwikset locks this looks like two little teeth that the cylinder pushes back.
They look like this.
Once all that is removed you should see the latch mechanism.
