Using a caulk gun and the coordinating acrylic caulk for your grout apply a bead to the perimeter of the backsplash area where the tiles meet your walls cabinets and counters.

Then trowel more thinset into the channel using your plastic notch trowel and install the mosaic tile.
Mosaic tile can be laid directly on plywood or wallboard in non wet locations but cement board offers the best underlayment and is the preferred choice for professionals.
